April 2019 Update

April 2019 work activities included the following:

  • Continued identification of concrete pier and abutment deficiencies
  • Continued with Class “S” Concrete and Variable Depth repairs (swing staging installed on piers in the water)
  • Continued localized paint removal
  • Removed lead paint debris from the construction site
  • Continued identification of structural steel deficiencies and steel repairs
  • Continue identification of bottom side concrete deck deficiencies and repairs
  • Completed longitudinal and transverse bridge deck expansion joint installation
  • Completed temporary navigational light installation

March 2019 Update

March 2019 work activities included the following:

  • Continued identification of concrete pier and abutment deficiencies
  • Continued with Class “S” Concrete and Variable Depth repairs
  • Continued preparation of the bridge deck for the longitudinal expansion joint installation
  • Continued localized paint removal
  • Continued identification of structural steel deficiencies and steel repairs
  • Continue identification of bottom side concrete deck deficiencies and repairs
  • Completed installation of bird deterrent netting

February 2019 Update

February 2019 work activities included the following:

  • Continued identification of concrete pier and abutment deficiencies
  • Continued with Class “S” Concrete and Variable Depth repairs
  • Continued preparation of the bridge deck for the longitudinal expansion joint installation
  • Continued localized paint removal
  • Continued identification of structural steel deficiencies and steel repairs
  • Completed installation of new pavement markings on I-95 southbound across the bridge

January 2019 Update

January 2019 work activities included the following:

  • Completed temporary transverse expansion joint treatments in the median
  • Completed installation of bridge drain extension pipes
  • Completed mark out for new IMS cable supports on Girder G-11
  • Continued identification of concrete pier and abutment deficiencies
  • Commenced with Class “S” Concrete and Variable Depth repairs
  • Continued preparation of the bridge deck for the longitudinal expansion joint installation
  • Commenced localized paint removal
  • Commenced identification of structural steel deficiencies and steel repairs

December 2018

  • Installation of the Construction access platform/debris shield beneath the bridge
  • Removal of the concrete median barrier on the bridge
  • Diamond grinding of the median bridge deck
  • Removal of the gland from the longitudinal bridge deck joint
  • Removal of the concrete median roadway barriers off the bridge
  • Median paving
  • HMA S0.375 overlay of the right lane and the Exit 16 off-ramp on I-95 southbound
  • Pothole patching
  • All painted pavement markings on I-95 northbound and southbound were refreshed for improved visibility

November 2018

In November assembly of the construction access platform beneath the bridge continued. Once completed this platform will not only be used by the contractors as a debris shield, but it will also be used to access many future work activities including:

  • Repair and painting of existing structural steel
  • Ultrasonic impact strengthening and repair of existing welds
  • Underside bridge deck concrete repairs
  • Concrete pier and abutment repairs
  • Bridge drainage system replacement including fiberglass pipes and scupper hoppers
  • Replacement of the existing Incident Management System (IMS) conduit and cable
  • Replacement of the existing navigational lighting system
  • Installation of an Avian Nesting Box for the Peregrine Falcons

Work on the I-95 Roadway at night continued including the following work activities:

  • Removal of the existing median barrier on and off the bridge
  • Cleaning of scuppers on the bridge and catch basins in the roadway for improved drainage
  • Patching of deteriorated bridge deck areas and roadway potholes
  • Modification of the median bridge expansion joints

Anticipated December work activities include the following:

  • Construction access platform completion
  • Diamond grinding the median bridge deck
  • Complete cleaning of scuppers on the bridge and catch basins in the roadway for improved drainage
  • Complete removal of the concrete median roadway barriers off the bridge and pave the void
  • Complete patching of deteriorated bridge deck areas
    Continue patching of potholes as required
  • Complete bridge median expansion joint modifications
  • Shift I-95 SB traffic to the south to create a work zone on the north side of the bridge that will allow modifications to the existing parapets and sidewalk.
